About me

  • My Piano Education

My first piano teacher was my grandma, who made playing piano fun and instilled a love of music in me which lasted even as I progressed to more experienced teachers. A graduate of Pro Arte High School in Pretoria, South Africa, (a specialized performing arts school), I completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Pretoria, studying under Joseph Stanford and June Theron. Further qualifications include Teacher’s Licentiates in Piano from Trinity Guildhall and the University of South Africa.

  • My teaching and musical experience

I have been teaching piano since 1992, privately in South Africa and Australia (also tutoring at Lake Joondalup Baptist College and Northshore Christian Grammar School) and at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare. I am an experienced accompanist, having accompanied choirs (Sing Australia and Vocal Fusion in WA), flute, clarinet, voice, trumpet, trombone and saxophone over the years.

  • Best thing about music

One of the best things about music is playing with other people, something I have particularly enjoyed doing in serving with various worship teams and as organist over the years. Although I am classically trained, I also enjoy improvising. I started songwriting a few years ago and am enjoying exploring the creative side of music in this way.

I aim to develop confident musicians who enjoy making beautiful music, working closely with each student to reach their musical goals, whether it be classical or more contemporary orientated.
